Yahya Abdul-Mateen II shares the top 10 books on his reading list

When Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was growing up, he remembered that his father read constantly. From newspapers and health books to the Bible to the Koran, his reading materials were among his most trusted sources of information about the world around him.

“He didn’t trust anything,” he said Candy man Star writes in an essay for the September issue of Men health. “He was born in New Orleans in 1945, and as a black man he knew he couldn’t leave America to tell him the truth about his body, mind, or state of affairs.”

When it comes to continuing education in 2020, Abdul-Mateen says he sees and reads the news. “But when I really want to know what’s going on in the world, I talk to my friends who work in politics, education, business or medicine, and I try to shut up and listen,” he adds.

Recently the actor who is also Dr. Manhattan played on HBOs Guardian– Get on your way to get your own reading list. “I asked a friend of mine, one of my Berkeley brothers who is now a professor of African American studies at Harvard, to give me a list of books I should read now,” wrote Abdul-Mateen. “He gave me a list of probably 30 books. I narrowed it down to ten.

“This is how I now teach myself: I rely on my community to share resources, to educate myself and to help myself grow – to shape my world greater. “
