Alone, people often fail. But beautiful things can happen with a friend or a loved one. This is one of those beautiful stories.

"My sister [Peggy Lawrence] not only showed me what it means to be brave, but also allowed me to love more deeply," said Patti Biancardi Barth. "What a privilege it is to be her friend, sister and trainer." Doctors diagnosed Peggy 23 years ago with multiple sclerosis when she was 37 years old. MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease that interrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and the body, potentially affecting functions ranging from walking to thinking. In an effort to build her strength and minimize the effects of the disease, Peggy began regular training.

"When Peggy was first diagnosed, we were inline skating, cycling and speed walking," Patti said. Despite her best efforts over the past 1

0 years, Peggy's symptoms have changed and her lifestyle has changed significantly. She is faced with balance problems, spasticity, leg pain and stiffness.

"I am heartbroken when I see her fighting with her daily activities," said Patti. "We feel at the crossroads."

Thankfully, Peggy and Patti have had good reasons over the last few years. Staying hopeful. The first was her decision three years ago to train together at the Anytime gym in Merrillville, Indiana.

"We love the increased effort and enthusiasm of working together during training," Peggy said. My growth in strength and endurance has greatly increased. Then we planned three personal training sessions with him, in which he broke off three different workouts and explained in great detail how – and why – we did these exercises. "Under Kevin's guidance, Peggy and Patti, like Maximiere, learned the efficiency of their workouts by pushing themselves out of their comfort zone."

"We are currently rotating the three different workouts weekly," Peggy said, "then Kevin convinced us participate in group training. It was at these meetings, we met personal trainer Demetrius Jackson and Nate Fowler. D and Nate bring their game to the group workouts. It's so fun to train fun in a group. We love it. D and Nate review exercises with me before class to ensure successful group participation. The group atmosphere brings energy, competitiveness and camaraderie to our workouts. The second major development that gives Patti and her sister reason to hope for Peggy's future is a promising new sclerosis treatment: a stem cell transplant procedure that has shown impressive results in stopping the progression of MS and in many cases many

"What I know is that the progression of this disease is going to stop," said Patti. "We need this treatment to keep Peggy mobile and healthy. I love my sister very much. "Our weekly schedule varies with family and work commitments, but we feel committed to our health, "said Peggy." I like to train with medicine balls, water balls, TRX ropes – any exercise, really, as long as the music is loud.
