The third season of Karate kid Continuation / spinoff series Cobra Kai is still Months away, but fans are already speculating about how the show will pick up on the various storylines that got stuck at the end of season two. In a recent interview with ColliderWilliam Zabka, who plays Johnny Lawrence, gave some pretty big hints about season 3, including a possible time jump that will take his character to a very different location than we last saw him.
“I could tell you what I felt at the end of last season … how painful it really was, how painful it was to give Kreese the keys and see Miguel in the hospital,” he said. “There was this hopelessness. And there wasn’t a script for season 3, I didn’t know where it was going, so the dead end was right there and I threw the bottle at the car, so I kind of got into season 3 at that point. “
“I think Johnny is growing, but he’s definitely going to have some lows and some highs and some lows and some highs and some sideways,” he continued. “He wasn’t doing so well by the end of season two, and you know it’ll pick up a little later after season two, so you’re going to hit the result of those events and do it to someone like Johnny Lawrence.”
As a new video on the Cobra Kai theory The YouTube channel indicates that there are different ways to interpret Zabka’s comments. The simplest and most obvious is that the show continues for a few weeks or even months after the events of the season two finale and that the characters have had some time to deal (or Not Deal) with their feelings when the fans see them again.

Alternatively, the show could start again immediately after the finale, depicting other characters dealing with the fallout, or perhaps focusing on Daniel’s point of view – without Johnny. With Season 2 ending on such a low point for the character, it’s possible for Johnny to escape and there will be some narrative tension around his whereabouts as the rest of the cast react to what’s going on.
A jump in time would also mean less screen time would be spent recovering Miguel, who was seriously injured at the end of season two, and he can start season three in combat form.
