Why you should sign up for the Asics World Ekiden Running Free Event



For those unfamiliar with the word ekidsbasically means a relay running. Ekidens are very popular in Japan, where at regular high-profile events the teams lose power through a long-distance race and one Tasuki (Sash) to her teammate at the end of each leg.

It’s incredibly fun to attend and the Asics World Ekiden free virtual event is an opportunity for everyone ekids Race this November.

The event will take place between November 11th and 22nd. During this time, teams of up to six players complete a marathon between them. It’s all done virtually, so log your leg in a tracking app and pass the virtual sash or baton on to your teammate for the next 42.2 km stint.

There are a total of six legs with different distances between 5km and 1

0km so runners of all abilities can choose one that suits them. So a team of six makes the most sense, but you can participate with fewer runners and run some of them twice.

The race will be followed on a new platform with both the Race Roster event planning system and the ASICS Runkeeper app. You can see how your team is doing compared to others and receive an “audio experience in the race” for additional motivation. We’re not sure what this experience will be like, but it sounds exciting.

During one ekids Asics World Ekiden is practically not quite as entertaining and atmospheric as tackling it in real life. It’s a great opportunity to connect with running friends who you may not have been able to run with in a long time. And if you’ve ever needed motivation to run tough on your own, do so for your team during the ekids will deliver that in spades.
