The Directors of Captain Marvel have revealed why Nick Fury had to lose his eye like him. In the 90s movie, MCU fans finally learned how the SHIELD agent (played by Samuel L. Jackson) came to his icon when unpredictable cat Flerken Goose scratched his eye out.
And in conversation with Digital Spy, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck revealed how they chose this particular scene after a decade of mystery.
"We went through several eye stories and then landed on this and we definitely shot it from the Marvel crew before we shot it," Anna said.
"You have the idea of what happened to Nick Fury so his eye is lost, Nick wants it to be this big battle or crazy story, and the fact that it was basically just a cat scratcher, is unexpected, funny and playful.
"Of course he would not tell anyone the truth about it."
Ryan added, "That's a big deal in Marvel's story, Kevin Feige will certainly be part of this discussion. There were tons of ideas, none of which was as exciting as the quirk that made it happen.
"I think it's fun that Fury whirls around for decades to make it feel more serious than it actually happened."
