Victoria's Secret Model Bella Hadid's latest health goal is not to be more careful or adopt a new diet to try – it's about quitting Juul. The model started Juuling after she quit smoking in 2017 and now she wants to give up e-cig life as well. (Confused? First read: What is Juul and is it bad for you?)

E-cigarette companies like Juul invariably claim that their products are better for you than real cigarettes, but market them as Emergency solution for cigarette smokers who want to stop. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize that e-cigs may be beneficial for some people, is it okay to use them, or is it easier to quit? Not so much.

How addictive is Juul anyway?

Long-time smokers may turn to Juul to get rid of the cigarette As it removes the negative effects of burning paper and additives (such as tar and carbon monoxide) on the lungs, Indra Cidambi, MD, medical director of the Center for Network Therapy and Vice President of the New Jersey Society of Addiction Medicine. "Higher nicotine levels, however, continue to pose a health risk. Vapors may also contain additives such as flavors whose health is largely unknown." (For your information, part of Juul's initial popularity came from his tantalizing flavors such as creme brulee, mango, and chilly cucumbers, but Juul was recently ordered by the FDA to restrict the use of teenagers, and reacted with the cessation of ~ fun ~ flavors instead, offer them online only.)

However, let's talk about these higher nicotine concentrations ̵

1; which could make Juul even even more addictive than regular cigarettes. "Juul contains nearly 59 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter of fluid, while a normal cigarette contains about 12 milligrams of nicotine," explains Dr. Cidambi. "Juul is at least four times as strong as cigarettes."

Here you can also look at it differently: "A Juul cartridge contains as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes – and twice the amount contained in other e-cigarettes is. says Patricia Folan, DNP, director of the Northwell Health Center for Tobacco Control (a recent study suggests that e-cigarettes can increase the risk of cancer.)

Giving up Juul vs. ceasing cigarettes

The high nicotine content could Making Juul even harder to quit than conventional cigarettes, and for what it's worth, a recent study in PLOS One found that Vamping actually does not help people with (See: Are e-cigarettes actually healthier for you?)

You smoke and throw away cigarettes – and that's when you can find a place where smoking is not prohibited. " Juul, however, can be used discretely, so it is widely used, "says Folan." This type of use contributes to the consumption of higher nicotine content. "While cigarette smokers are a temporary L get solution for nicotine that Juul users breathe likely throughout the day a constant current.

Getting all the extra nicotine off the ground can also make it even more uncomfortable, says Melynda Barnes, Associate Clinical Director for Ro, a telemedicine startup developing smoking cessation programs. You may expect the same effects of nicotine withdrawal as cigarettes: coughing, nausea, sweating, depression, weight gain, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and insomnia. "But because of the constant consumption and higher nicotine content, people who try to quit smoking report more intense withdrawal symptoms," she adds.

How to Juul

Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this. "At the moment, there is no standard protocol for giving up e-cigarettes, especially as they are being marketed as a smoking cessation tool," says dr. Barnes.

There Are No Public Health Directives To assist people in stopping e-cigarettes, there are FDA-approved drugs that help with nicotine dependence, Folan says. "People who depend on e-cigarettes and want to quit should talk to their healthcare provider for help choosing the best-licensed smoking cessation product," she adds. And how giving up cigarettes ", If the amount of nicotine is gradually reduced you consume it or stopping cold turkey are options, "says dr. Cidambi. Good news: Juul develops lower nicotine pods that can reduce the amount of nicotine when you take the balance back.

Of course you already know how to avoid all this: Do not smoke Juul Place first.
