According to cinematographer VK Murthy, Guru Dutt had suicidal tendencies and attempted suicide three times. Murthy took him to the hospital twice. The talented director was addicted to smoking and drinking. Guru also suffered from sleep disturbances caused by his strange work and drinking hours. Depression, sleep disorders and alcohol abuse turned out to be deadly to the talented actor.
