The Reverse Vegan Diet
For those who do not know, a carnivore diet is a meat diet, usually a lot of red meat. No fruits, vegetables, grains or plants of any kind. Plants are "poisonous".
Some practitioners have a small amount of dairy products and eggs; some not. Normally alcohol and coffee are not, because they are vegetable.
Got it? Okay, let us in.
Unstable people love it!
I have to get that out of the way first. I met some people who were attracted to this eating style. A few were actually vegans. That's right, they went from "meat is murder" to "I brush my teeth with flank steak."
Well, how do I say that gently? They were all as nutty as a glass of Jif ̵
It's a correlation I've noticed: people who are a little cuckoo for Cocoa puffs are often attracted to extreme diets. It does not matter what the diet or eating behavior is as long as it is extreme and they feel superior: veganism, the carnivore diet, hours of hours and hours of fasting, "keto for life," raw foods, etc.
are all unbearable, but that does not mean that these methods have no value. But once a style of eating has evolved from the tool to the glassy-eyed food religion, I have to question the current mental state of the dieter.
Similar to eating disorders, psychologists believe that it's not really about food but about deeper issues expressed through controllable actions such as eating or not eating or binge eating … or eating like a nut. So think about it.
It's What You DO NOT Eat
Many people claim that a pure meat diet has cured them of all their suffering. I do not doubt that completely.
The carnivore diet is basically an elimination diet. If someone had leaky gut problems or undiagnosed food allergies, I'm sure he feels better with the meat diet, not because meat is magical and all plants are "poisonous", but because they no longer eat what caused them problems.
It might work if your diet is lacking
Some women claim that they feel great about this diet. If these women were anemic or close to her (very little iron), eating a garbage can of red meat would probably solve the problem and they would feel much better. (Iron poverty in women can cause a range of problems, even depression and mental confusion.)
But high-dose iron supplementation would have helped even without the extreme dietary changes.
Similarly, a sudden influx of high-quality protein and fat would make a person feel better if they did not have those macros before. A fat-free diet without fat would cause many problems (many hormonal ones), and eating red meat would "cure" them. But this could have been done without the extremely reversed vegan diet.
But the Inuit!
The carnivore diet advocates also like to talk about the primitive tribes that survive and even thrive. Meat diets. But maybe they overlook a few things.
For example, traditional Inuit peoples also eat the stomach contents of the animals that hunted them. So they ate plants, just eaten plants. Other primitive "carnivores" strains also consumed every part of the animal, even the skin, hooves and bones. So they also got fiber.
The early human may also have consumed small amounts of dirt and soft stones to obtain the minerals needed, which is still practiced today by some primitive tribes.
Lack of Common Sense
The most vehement predator dieters also claim that you have no vitamin or mineral deficiency. For example, they indicate that meat contains vitamin C, but many overlook the fact that the vitamin is largely lost during cooking. To remedy this, many predators dieters eat raw meat.
Longevity is the best way to lead a longer life is not to smoke, wear the seatbelt and not be fat. And with whole grain diet you would not be fat.
But you would also miss a wealth of herbal compounds that will keep you healthy in the long run, like polyphenols. Would not fat outweigh the nutritional deficiencies? Hard to say.
By and large, a whole-diet could work if you make hell, much like a vegan diet. But if either way is the only right way for humans, then supplementing vitamins and minerals should not be necessary, right? 19659005] Does this work for fat loss?
Of course. When people severely restrict the diversity of food, we have natural mechanisms to reduce hunger. And all the protein would be very filling. Again, there is nothing magical about eating less calories.
Then there is the obvious: meat contains neither sugar nor carbohydrates, and these are usually the main problems of the chubby person.
How about Muscle Gain?
This is basically a keto diet, which, as Christian Thibaudeau has pointed out, will greatly slow down or even stop muscle gains. Yes, you need carbohydrates to build muscle.
Many people claim to build muscle on a pure meat diet, but they probably only lose fat and better show the muscle they already had.
Or maybe relatively newbies in terms of lifting – the magical stage of your career, in which it is difficult to build NO muscle, regardless of your training and dieting approach. And finally, those who claim to add muscle meat to a carnivore diet consume just enough protein.
What about autoimmune problems?
Many people suffering from extreme autoimmune problems have found relief in a carnivorous diet. While it is not the cure, if it prevents them from constantly experiencing pain then it is a great tool until we find out the cause (and hopefully a cure) for autoimmune problems.
Summary: Except for a With few exceptions, the Carnivore Diet is just the newest, really exciting, but totally silly nutritional plan for unstable people who need attention and less calories.
