Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks have become an increasingly normal part of our everyday lives. And while there are still some who oppose the idea of wearing a mask in public places, others are more focused on how face coverings represent a new way of self-expression. In the last few months a true home industry has sprung up, with an ever growing selection of colorful designs.
And then there are those who are downright extra.
Yvel, an Israel-based jewelry company, is currently in the process of making the most expensive face mask in the world for one of its customers. The mask, designed by company founders Isaac and Orna Levy, is made from more than 250 grams of 1
The mask was commissioned by a billionaire in China and is valued at $ 1.5 million. In context: you can buy a small island for about half of that.
Of course, for that price, you want it to actually work – and it will. According to Yvel, the mask has N99 filter functions (highest level) and “meets the strictest standards” when it comes to preventing the virus from spreading.
Like many other employers during the pandemic, Yvel had been forced to stop production and send workers home for their own safety and had closed its factory when the country stalled. This one-time order was placed as an “act of financial support” for Yvel and its 150 employees at a time of global economic uncertainty, according to the company.
To complete the assignment, the Levys brought back 25 skilled jewelers and diamond setters to work on the mask. It is expected to be completed and delivered to the customer by the end of the year.
