Judging by the massive cult hit from Netflix Cobra Kai, The 80s are back – and another figure from our distant memories is being refreshed. The story of Conan the Barbarian, the muscular, mythical, sword-bearing hero, is being adapted for a live-action series on Netflix. Deadline Reports.
Originally created by the author Robert E. Howard has inspired several comics, TV series, and of course the 1982 film and the 1984 sequel starring none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger himself (as well as the later and less successful 2011 reboot with Jason Momoa) in a series of short stories. . While the original film was considered a box office flop, it would achieve cult status among Schwarzenegger supporters and moviegoers alike and largely launch Arnie̵
So far, the details of the new series are sparse – executive producers are still looking for a showrunner, and presumably a new Conan to match them, but we venture to guess that you can expect a cameo from Arnold himself.
Schwarzenegger was already in discussions with the director in August 2019 for another sequel to the Conan series. For years, legal issues with rights owners (and Schwarzegger’s political career) meant the franchise was in an indefinite waiting pattern.
While it doesn’t look like things are planned for the movie, he likely hasn’t given up hope of holding the sword again. We hope he does.
