The biggest skincare mistakes that people make all the time



As a beautician, I spend a lot of time correcting skin accidents, from the unexpected side effects of rough products to laser scars (which is usually only the case if you really mess up your SPF). I have also made many mistakes myself, as it can be quite tempting to be my personal guinea pig. I've summarized the most common misleading below – the good news is that they are very easy to avoid once you hear about it.

. Excessive use of exfoliants

This happens when you use too much of your exfoliant: as you remove the exfoliant, an important component of your skin, the so-called lipid barrier, begins to dissolve. If too much is removed, the skin barrier is compromised. There are a variety of symptoms that can occur if you overdo it with acids or peels: In the best case, your skin will become dry and dehydrated; In the worst case, your skin becomes exceptionally sensitive, burning and irritating.

Accidental over-processing of the skin is not too big a problem from time to time. Your skin may be a little uncomfortable, but if you let it heal, you're back to normal. The main concern is when we do too much with chronic symptoms. Whether you experience persistent dry skin, dehydration, inflammation or irritation, all of these problems can lead to premature aging over time (which I'm pretty sure we all try to avoid.)

That does not mean That you are not there should avoid using chemical or physical exfoliants in your routine. They can be essential for maintaining the glow. You could have the perfect product, but you will need to use it less often. Or maybe what you use is actually too strong for what your skin can tolerate. 3. Thinking of DIY Treatments is Always Your Friend

Thanks to the popular Social Vision Board (Pinterest), DIY treatments with crushed aspirin, baking soda and lemon juice are still being tried. However, some things are not meant to be used on your skin! While you can create a honey and yogurt mask to nourish and gently exfoliate your skin (it is rather tame and feels great), aspirin, baking soda and lemon juice have the potential to cause havoc on the skin barrier I have been for years Receive desperate emails from people who have asked how they can fix stinging, hot, angry skin after rubbing a lemon on their face. The goal is to lighten her skin, instead leaving her extremely acidic lemon juice with a red, delicate mess. The recovery time can take weeks! It's best to go back to the basics: cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen, and nothing else until your skin returns to normal. And the next time you see a skincare recipe that arouses your interest, conduct due diligence, and research it first.

. 4 Thinking that you need to "feel it works"

Perhaps the most overlooked mistake is not the skin. Generally we tend to do too much or are too aggressive. The idea that you need to feel that products and treatments are transforming your skin is incredibly wrong. The truth is, in most cases, you do not want to feel anything – or at least it should be minimal. A tingling or stinging means your skin tells you something is wrong and you should really listen.

Even if you do not have sensitive skin, gentle treatment of your skin is the key to preventing premature aging. Of course, there are skin types that can tolerate aggressive treatments, but that does not mean your skin needs them . Watch out for products or treatments that cause discomfort and dryness, rate what causes your skin to behave like this, and consider how often that part of your beauty scheme is practiced (and possibly completely eliminated). Treat it carefully. and you can have skin that you are proud of at any age.
