I’m certainly not a purist when it comes to running, which means I listen to music when I’m walking miles – whether in the great outdoors or on the treadmill. It’s basically an alternative fuel source for me. Good headphones are a must. The ones I turn to right now: Beats Powerbeats Pro. They are the best wireless training headphones I’ve ever tried.
While I was once loyal to the Powerbeats 3 Wireless that took me through many marathons, I caught the mistake when I slipped on the Powerbeats Pro. From simply pairing it with my iPhone ̵
Look, the last thing you want is a couple to die in the middle of a race. That happened to me at mile 16 of the Berlin Marathon 2018 and it certainly strained my mental state. With the Powerbeats Pro, you don’t have to worry about that. The nine hour battery life is out of this world. When fully charged, the case offers an additional listening time of 24 hours.
As someone notorious for forgetting to plug in their tech basics – my phone, my running watch, and, yes, my headphones – and then got the nerve to be upset when it takes forever to recharge, knows I appreciate that there’s a quick five minutes you have enough juice for an hour and a half of music, which is enough time for a solid run (or killer fitness session).
I also think it’s great that the parts aren’t connected like many other workout headphones. The headphones are actually two independent over-the-ear hooks with adjustable in-ear pieces, each with buttons for volume control and playback. Also handy: Pressing and holding the Beats logo activates Siri on your iPhone, so you can work completely hands-free. Independent buds also mean you don’t have to wear both at the same time for them to work. For safety reasons, I usually run with one inlet and one outlet, especially during the evening runs – you can never be too careful!
As an added bonus, they will receive a check to ensure that they are also sweat resistant. As a heavy sweater (TMI?), Earbuds often slosh around in my ear when sweat drips down my face. But these have a nice, comfortable fit with no slip, whether I’m at mile 2 or 20.
And if that’s not enough, they’re smooth, matte, and come in four cool, deep hues. Personally, I prefer the black because I think it looks the best. I can’t lie: they’re expensive – but I think the features, especially the sound quality (is that a DJ in my ear?), More than justify the price.
