Strong Brian Shaw shares Hummer Tire Deadlift Setup Video

Four-time World’s Strongest Man Champion Brian Shaw has reached an intense training mode for the upcoming World’s Strongest Man competition. This year’s competition is slated to take place in Florida in November after being postponed from its original date in May due to the coronavirus pandemic. Shaw worked hard to prepare and gave us a glimpse into his workout training with the wood press, barrel throwing, and atlas stone.

But now he’s rolled out some big toys. It’s deadlift day for Shaw, and he’s showing off some pretty expensive (and huge) equipment he has on hand for pulls: a lobster tire deadlift setup.

“I worked my deadlift at different heights,”

; says Shaw. “I still don’t know what the deadlift will be for the strongest man in the world, whether it’s height or rep, but I try to work on everything to be rounded. Once we get that information, I can choose it a little more. “

He comes in to deadlift the Hummer tires, just warm up with the tires, then add a pair of flat tires. Once he’s done a few reps, he adds another set of tires to the bar, followed by a few more plates. Shaw then adds Another Set of tires for a total of six, which he repeats twice. But he doesn’t stop there: he adds more weight plates and does one more rep before adding More Weight plates. Another representative, and he adds more weight. He worries while Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” is playing in his gym.

“Yes!” says Shaw after completing another iteration. “The rubber on rubber is hard at first. It’s a win for the day. It does your job breaking it off. It’s good to pull it off the ground. It’s one of those things that makes this friction hard to calculate and use But it makes you hold that position really well. And if I can hold on while pulling, the top end is easier. So it just breaks off. It definitely builds up, but it’s fun. “

Shaw explains that the tire grip makes it difficult to pull because his gym is made of rubber.

“This will likely have to be built on wood,” says Shaw. “This full eight hoop deadlift is perhaps one of the most iconic deadlifts in the sport of strongman. I’m so excited to be assembling it and making it work.”
