Saucony Kinvara 10 Running Shoe review

When a shoe reaches its tenth edition, it's usually a good sign that it's doing something right. The Kinvara has been a hugely popular shoe for Saucony since its launch a decade ago. Its lightweight, padded running feel and 4mm heel clearance make it easy for runners looking for a low-drop trainer to handle a variety of runs. The shoe weighs just 221g (for men) or 190g (for women), but has a good stack of upholstery that provides a fairly soft ride. However, the overwhelming feeling I have associated with the ride is not softness, but how smooth it is when rolling from heel to heel. It's great for downhill runs of any length, working at a steady or uncomplicated pace but glittering over longer distances, where you can positively eat the miles and feel like a cruise. And if you want to increase the tempo towards the end of a long run, the Kinvara feels fast enough to do just that.

It is also very comfortable to wear. The mesh upper holds the foot in place without pressure, and the contoured footbed FORMFIT also helps wrap your foot in the shoe. I found no bruises on my foot and the Kinvara was not far from the plush feel of the Saucony Triumph ISO 5, which was designed specifically for comfortable cruising.

The ride and fit of the Kinvara fit together It's a solid option for endurance racing. Something like the Adidas Boston 7 or the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit is not as fast and responsive, and I was under a little bit of pressure on short, fast runs, but longer stretches at a good, if not full, pace feel great the Kinvara. To test the speed, I launched the Kinvara at two kilometer intervals doing a quick 10km race tackled for every kilometer. On both occasions, I've found that I demanded something faster on the foot, especially toward the end of training or exercise. The Kinvara is not slow, but it does not give the driving feel of a real racer you want on a circuit ride or in 5K and 10K races.

However, he will do a great job on a marathon distance and would also be a good choice for half marathons, offering a balance of weight, comfort and cushioning, as well as a silky smooth ride – perfect for long races.
