We all know the saying, "When the going gets tough, it gets difficult." When tenacity actually becomes an unbearable, real circumstance, those words are harder to apply than they once appeared.

Ryan Brock either wanted to "get started" or end his life when his ex-wife announced that she wanted a divorce. After four years together, committed to raising her son at home while working in the Air Force, Brock was devastated when she heard the relationship ended. This was followed by depression and suicidal thoughts.

"I wanted to fight for our marriage, even though she told me it was over," he says. "But after a while, I thought," Why would someone fight for you if you can not even fight it yourself?

As this switch moved in his head, Brock took self-pity off and put on his running shoes, and after building a fitness base, the race eventually turned into strength training ̵

What did life look like for you before this transformation?

One word puts it in a nutshell: lonely: As our marriage worsened, I avoided arguing, and let me develop the destructive habits of Reating above and not moving. Granted, I was not the healthiest before, but I made it worse. When we divorced, I lived again in my parents' house. I had to start all over again like a teenager from high school right away – no career, no love life, no own place and no way to turn. The depression challenged me. I thought of suicide. I led an abandoned and isolated life.

There was an aha! Moment for you that you have decided to change?

I remember the night very well. It was March 25, 2017. I had just talked to my ex-wife for a month when I begged her to clarify our marriage with me. She said the damage was done. I wanted to kill myself because of those words, and I cried in my room for at least an hour.

When I wanted to wash my face, I was in the mirror … shirtless. I have never been so big in my life. I hated the way I looked, hated my way and hated the hand the world had given me. A spark ignited inside me and I decided that the best way to get my wife back was to lose all weight. I wanted to show her and me that anything is possible if you strive for it. Whether it's a personal fitness trip, a broken marriage, or even a rundown car, people often believe they're too far away to return from the pain and turmoil. That was not me.

How did you achieve your goals?

My first practice day was the night when I wiped the tears from my face. Furious, I walked away from my reflection, went to our few mornings of land, put in some earplugs, and ran. That took about 10 seconds. It was absolutely pathetic. I was a swimmer in high school and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was active with my friends years ago. But now I could not jog more than 20 paces without gasping for air. So I started slowly and did 20 minutes of cardio a day as best I could. What was the most difficult aspect of the journey?

Patience. There were times when I would not see any change, but everyone else would. Some days I wanted to give up and I'm sick of the stricter food. Sometimes I asked why I still do that. It would have been so much easier to stay home and do nothing day after day. But I had neglected my body and chosen terrible habits for so long that it took just as much time and effort to correct those habits. Patience is a trait that you must have for this life.

How has this transformation changed in how you see yourself and your relationships?

It showed me that everything, including relationships, requires a lot of work and it has changed what I believe in what I deserve. I need someone who inspires me to be the best I can achieve in every way. You do not have to be a total fitness addict, but if that's the lifestyle you choose, you need someone who wants to live a long and healthy life with you, choose smarter meals, stay active, and above all, support your goals and dreams.

If you could say something to someone who wants a big change on their own, what would that be?

First of all, people with a similar spirit and strong work find ethics. This can be a friend or a personal trainer. Second, find your spark. My was my depression after my divorce. The anger and despair I felt became a fire that I will never extinguish. Whatever you spend, focus on it. And last but not least, do not give up! The hardest part is to move forward.

Do You Have Future Plans for Fitness

My goal is currently to achieve 10 percent body fat. Man is so heavy. The diet must be stricter; Exercise must be on the point. I've thought about maybe getting into personal training to show people that anyone, like me, can achieve their goals, anyone can. Still thinking about it

Who was your support system during this transformation?

Casey, Rodolfo, George and all my friends helped me through my depression and told me to lift my head when the world came crashing down They listened when I needed ears, were a shoulder to cry and a reasonable voice when I was about to end my own life. My parents have always loved me, no matter in what difficulties I get. I also thank my colleagues. I know they hated hearing about my workouts and calling me a big sack of potatoes, but they have my back. And of course I have God, who always creates a new day for me with new beginnings.

I went to Bodybuilding.com to learn to lift weights. I had never recovered in my life as a teenager, so I needed to learn the right form and what exercises should isolate certain muscles. They also helped with the preparation of meals and the right diet. I love to read the transformations of people all over the world. It's cool to see what kindled your fire. It inspires me every day!
