In today's highly competitive world, employees can make the most of their talents through sound mental health and well-being.

Mental health is a broad term that refers to a person's emotional, psychological and social health. The state of mental health directs thoughts, emotions and actions. This is a critical factor in individuals' ability to cope with stress, connect with others and make decisions. Healthy employees can better manage stress at work and ensure organizational productivity and career growth. However, mental health today is a highly neglected area in the workplace.

Studies show that approximately 42.5% of Indian private sector workers are affected by a generalized anxiety disorder or depression. Mental health problems are therefore one of the most important factors in the global burden of disease and physical disability. In India, the economic costs of mental illness at work have not been accurately assessed. However, the WHO estimates the figure at $ 1

.03 trillion for the period from 2012 to 2030 (calculated as the value of the US dollar for 2010).

Mental health problems start quite harmlessly as stress. However, if they are not activated, they impact on employee performance and work motivation. Depression, irritability and fatigue set in and, as a result, the number of disease leaves increases. Apart from the numerous problems with work performance, the effects of persistent mental illness on physical health are the worst. Poor mental health can lead to debilitating and potentially fatal chronic conditions such as blood pressure, heart problems, insomnia and other sleep disorders, ulcers, decreased immunity, digestive dysfunction and crippling body aches.

The stigma and fears associated with mental illness leave most people with these problems for the longest time hide. However, there are certain symptoms that are an early indicator that a person's mental health may not be okay. Some of them are as follows:

  • Lack of sleep or too much sleep
  • Withdrawal from social life and action
  • Energy deprivation
  • Poor and inattentive
  • Sudden, sharp and unexplained pains and complaints
  • Depressed
  • Enjoyment of heavy smoking, alcohol or drug use
  • forgetfulness
  • confusion about things
  • inexplicable anger and irritability
  • feelings of anxiety and worry
  • losing control with family and friends
  • strong mood swings [19659021] However, it must be clear that these problems can affect everyone. There is no reason to be ashamed of her, but to come out and talk about what makes her sick. Once this fear of opening is overcome, it is possible to effectively treat the condition through a combination of lifestyle changes, exercise, meditation, and medications (for more severe cases).

    Mental health is crucial to the physical well-being of employees. When human resources are mentally healthy, they deliver superior performance and help others to improve. However, mentally ill employees will not only be worse off but also prone to severe physical discomfort and disability. Conclusion

    The prevalence of mental illness among workers is increasing due to stress in the workplace. It is important to create an atmosphere based on public health concepts that tackles the problem holistically. Stigma and myths related to mental health problems need to be addressed through facts and social support. We must not lose sight of the fact that mental illnesses can be cured. By helping those affected, they not only contribute more, but also help to reduce the global burden of disease.
