    1. Kapelus says the college has made a "big contribution" to its weight gain.

"I've gained a lot of weight in college from all the parties and the drinking I did, diet and fitness were completely lost, so after college I got a desk job, which meant sitting during the day – and then I fell in love with cooking, spending my nights and weekends trying out new recipes and cooking fancy meals for my wife and family and eating everything I could to gain more weight. He did not feel well in [his] skin "- and decided to change something.

" I did not feel well, physically or emotionally. "There was always this feeling that the People were staring and judging negatively … I missed experiences and opportunities because I was self-confident, what I would look like and what other people would think food became an emotional crutch. It became a terrible cycle of eating because I felt bad, and then bad because I just ate.

"Also, I could not keep up when I tried to play basketball with friends over the weekend, my XXL shirts and '40s pants became too tight and I picked out normal stores and brands, my knees hurt, my back hurts, I looked at what my life was, and saw what I wanted, change had to happen. "

He began to eat and exercise better, but first it was "hard to find a balance."

"I reduced the processed garbage to cook healthier and control my portions, then I went to the gym and set myself up in the open, which led to running.

" It was difficult to find a balance. I had my work during the day, culinary gigs on the weekend, and started an evening culinary school program at the International Culinary Center. After graduating, I started a Masters program in New York. The university I am currently working on to complete the project, finding a rough balance, however, forced me to make changes at a realistic pace to integrate them into my everyday life. The development of consistent positive habits will allow for some clarity. You could not achieve anything else.

The results came earlier than Kapelus had expected.

"They did not really feel right at the beginning. Since college, I was the king who lost 25 pounds. And then. "This time was the healthiest way I was in [it] … but by the time I reached 35-40 lbs, I felt like I'd find a way to screw it up.

But eventually they see Results kept pushing me – to look better, to get better and more important results, to feel better, with each plateau being more explored and learning what to do next and getting harder and smarter. Nevertheless, he had some major hurdles to bear on his weight loss journey.

"The biggest hurdles were mental, and part of me felt that I could not and did not deserve to be fit, and that I would win back everything that I started in half the time Once I got out of my head it was a bit easier.

"… It also helps to find people who inspire you. There are a few social media accounts that I have followed on Instagram for information and motivation. Find like-minded people to build a network – support systems are huge. My wife helped me with the meal preparation and talked about the uncertainties and challenges I was dealing with as often as I wanted, and she could not have been more supportive. While you are responsible for your own weight loss, support and a cheer team never hurt anyone. If you read this and nobody is in your corner, you can: I have you.

Kapelus says his transformation to weight loss "still feels surreal. "

" I do not always recognize myself when I look in the mirror I've done a Tough Mudder and a half marathon. I have the NYC Half Marathon in March, the Chicago Marathon in October, and Tough Mudder Ultra in April. I have a new level of self-esteem and a new level of discipline that I've never had. You can change and control the little things you do every day – like what you eat, go to the gym and go to that run – you can control larger things in your life and how you react to them.

As for his advice to other people?

"The ultimate goal of weight loss can only be achieved through hard work and persistence. The long game is important to you, but you have to remember to stay in the moment and be present. Real change and progress comes from the little decisions we make in our daily lives … take one meal, one workout, and one day after another.

"Contrary to what you may think, you are good enough, and you deserve to be in the shape that you want and have the body you want for less than you "I have not seen any real change until I've internalized that."
