JuJu Smith-Schuster shares his NFL offseason workout routine



Since the NFL season is scheduled to begin officially on September 10, 2020, the players didn’t sleep on their training during the quarantine. All of JJ Watt, Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, Cam Newton and James Conner have shared their workouts to stay in shape for the coming season. And JuJu Smith-Schuster, broad recipient for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is no exception. He shared all of his training on his YouTube channel in his coach Corey Calliet’s garage, and it’s intense. “It’s going to be crazy training,” says Smith-Schuster.

His warm-up easily begins with a few resistance band walks, then moves to a combined squat movement to the overhead press, followed by an inchworm. Next, he̵

7;ll make rows breakaway. “We’re just getting started. Oh my god,” he says. “I hate when he shrugs!”

Caillet already loves it. “You don’t have to be in a big sports training center with nice, fancy machines and shit. We’re in my garage. I just train world-class athletes in my garage.” Training begins with point sprints, followed by pushups with arm extensions and back to the sprints. Then Smith-Schuster meets a fan bike.

“It’s the hardest thing, brother. The two hardest things we’re doing here. I don’t know what it is,” he says before he starts peddling. “We’re just getting started and it feels like a sauna here.”

From there he goes to a barbell for overhead presses and he sweats. The boys open the garage doors for relief. “This is paradise!” Says Smith-Schuster.

Next, he grabs a row of dumbbells for a couple of barbell presses and leans over rows. His next move is with a medicine ball that he uses to raise one arm while doing pushups while changing hands. Then he grabs the medicine ball for core work. He does some medicine ball presses with an extended leg while Calliet shouts: “Work for it!”

“When I train an athlete, we will do bodybuilder things to build an actual body that will be strong, which will help the muscles to be really good, conditioned, and have a lot of stamina,” says Calliet.

Then Smith-Schuster grabs a sandbag for a round of weighted entry sprints, followed by medicine ball throws and standing skier pulldowns. “Everyone wants to be great, but nobody wants to invest the time,” he says. “You have to live, eat, breathe that shit.”
