After the death of actor Luke Perry at the age of 52, his longtime friend and Beverly Hills 90210 co-star Jason Priestley released an emotional homage on Instagram ,
"It took me a few days to figure out how to write that," Priestley says in the post. "My dear friend of 29, Luke Perry, was one of those very special people who really took care of it … Luke was not just a star, he was an incredibly bright light that had died out too quickly … and that's why I and so many others are in such great pain today … If you've been lucky enough to know Luke or ever crossed his path, you know that you're sad too today … the candle that burns twice so bright burns only half as long … you burned oh, so bright, Luke … Goodnight Sweet Prince.
Others who have worked with Perry on the popular teenage drama of the 1990s also shared what he meant to them. Tiffani Thiessen, who played Valerie Malone, wrote about Perry's generosity towards her when she joined the show. "He greeted me with open arms on my very first day of # 90210," she said. "This man took me under his wing and made me feel at home. I felt like he was in his TV family. He was sincere, sweet, warmhearted, friendly, professional and funny. And above all, the definition of a gentleman.
Alongside the brooding heartthrob Dylan McKay in 90210 Perry also starred in the films Buffy the Vampire Slayer and TV dramas Oz and Jeremiah – and at the height of his fame a memorable, good-humored cameo as he himself did in an episode of The Simpsons . More recently, he became known to a whole new generation of fans as Fred Andrews, Archie's father, in The CW's Riverdale.
On March 7 Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced that the remaining episodes of the third season of the show, which is currently aired, will be dedicated to the memory of Luke Perry.
