Dirty floors, rusty dumbbells, and aggressive words scrawled on the walls in a gym might frighten someone more used to planet fitness. But we'll take you to the original Metroflex Gym in Arlington, Texas, the playground for professional bodybuilders, where no honorable iron brother could miss the leg.
The bodybuilders of IFBB professionals Guy Cisternino, Branch Warren and Johnnie O Jackson met at the Metroflex to clap and know that the gym's interior was just what they needed to feed their intensity. Look, these guys take the workout ten times more seriously than the most brutal guy you know, for his arm day.
Two-time Arnold Classic winner Branch Warren trains in Metroflex. The eight-time Mr. Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman. You will not find the typical fitness center facilities, impeccable equipment and a smoothie bar that mixes the latest, quirky superfoods. It's the place to be if you need help preparing for bodybuilding competitions, but be better prepared for the training style inspired by Metroflex.
"They bring some hardcore music, man," says Cisternino, two-time New York Pro 212 winner. "And, you know, it looks dirty, but they have some awesome gear and it's definitely a place to visit if you're a bodybuilder, which will definitely put a spark in your ass."
After recovering from lifting for a month after recovering from stem cell injections, Metroflex Gym was the perfect place to suppress a lower body session and prepare for the rest of the 2018 bodybuilding season.
The fellas were warmed up with leg extensions before going on to heavy squats and resting only long enough to put more plates on the bar and let each other finish their sentences. Do not assume that the worst is over, as they follow with gruesome 8-10 plate squats. Use Warren's Quad Training Wonders, and you're more afraid of the leg day than ever.
Take it from these guys – gymnasiums, air conditioning and sophisticated machines do nothing for your body. It's about how you train and with whom you train.
