Photo: Sephora / farbo / Shutterstock.com When I worked as a Clinique consultant at the college for four years, one of the most frequently asked questions from clients was: "How come that the yellow lotion does not do anything (insert skin problems)? "At that time the answer was The moisturizer should balance the oil and water in your skin before you apply your serums and other moisturizers that target your skin problems (related: this serum is best product I used for my acne scars)
But it seems that Clinique has heard the cries for help from its customers because Clinique ID was recently introduced, a moisturizer for the individual blend that meets your skin needs. Now nobody has to ask why the yellow lotion does nothing. 1
Clinique was kind enough to send me a customized Clinique ID for review.
Having worked for Clinique once, the launch of Clinique-ID is both nostalgic and exciting for me. My dreams have come true with the dramatically different hydrating jelly that's suitable for all skin types (and was not available behind the counter during my time).
My skin has a combination of dry, normal and oily areas So Hydrating Jelly was the perfect base for me. My main concern is for dark spots (from previous acne breakouts), so I picked the non-uniform skin tone cartridge to complete my custom Clinique ID. The cartridge I have selected has a Japanese angelica root to balance the skin tone.
Sidebar: When you receive the moisturizer, it looks like part of the base has been used. It is not filled to the brim so the moisturizer does not overflow when inserting the cartridge. It makes sense.
This is what my skin looked like before applying the Clinique ID Moisturizer after cleansing:
You can see some shine in my T-Zone, but everywhere is normal or dry. Especially around my mouth my skin can become dehydrated, irritated and discolored.
In summer I'm greasy everywhere, but during the fall and winter months my skin is mixed – which can be frustrating. I like the fact that the Hydrating Jelly is suitable for all skin types. It can literally address any area of my face as needed.
Compared to the traditional, dramatically different gel, this hydrating jelly feels less sticky.
Although I have oily skin, I was never a big fan of the dramatically different gel. For people with extremely oily skin, it seemed to work wonders. But my skin always felt dry and sticky. The stickiness drove me crazy because even though I applied a moisturizer to my skin, she still felt sticky. Honestly, I feel like that happens to most gel moisturizers. The moisture jelly does not make my skin sticky. If anything, it feels hydrated. (See also: Hyaluronic Acid is the easiest way to immediately transform your skin.)
My Last Thoughts
After applying the moisturizer, my skin immediately feels hydrated and looks much brighter. I am aware that my dark spots will not disappear after a week. All in all, I think it's great that it gives me a glowing skin – that was immediately noticeable. I'm looking forward to seeing what my skin will look like in a month or two.
I think it's great that Clinique does not give their products any fragrance. My skin is not particularly sensitive to fragrances, but it's nice to know that my moisturizer does not have any extra "substances" my skin can do without. This lightweight moisturizer is great to wear under the base so I did not have to worry about it disturbing my make-up.
If you would like to try this custom moisturizer yourself, Clinique ID is available on the brand's $ 39 website (which includes both the base and the cartridge.)
