Hygge: What is it and how to practice it (I tried it and it's the best there is)

Not in so many words, but cuddling and watching a movie or TV is very hygienic – especially if you're sharing a blanket and a bowl of popcorn. Board games, books and maybe a walk are also hygge. Also pet a cat. Essentially this is my dream recipe for relaxation. Wiking suggests a hyggekrog roughly translated into "a corner". So I created a place in my home to snuggle up with my warming blanket, read a book and drink tea. My husband and I cleared out a season of The Crown and seldom left the house all weekend except a long walk. It was absolutely gorgeous.

The verdict: Hygge is exactly what I needed.

While Hygge not only pays attention to having these elements in your room – after all, the main component of Hygge is that it is you – I feel present and have good time with yourself or your loved ones – the book has many Advice that helped me find that feeling of coziness and satisfaction. All in all, I can say with certainty that Hygge is my jam. My husband and I have labeled it (wrongly) as hoagie (like the sandwich) and use the term constantly. At the moment our world feels a bit unsafe, hygge is a way to practice self-care that feels sincere.
