Five tips for getting the most out of your Garmin Fitness Tracker



Thousands of Garmin fitness trackers will be unpacked nationwide on Christmas morning. However, they are so packed that they are so confusing that it's almost impossible to get your head around them. The result is that many of us can barely scratch the surface of the tracker.

To make sure you get as much out of your new Garmin as possible, we've hired Maria Townsley, Garmin's junior fitness and fitness product manager, Theo Axford, Product and Partnership Director, to share some of your key features device. Some of the following options are only available for certain Forerunner and Fenix ​​trackers, but others for all with a Garmin Connect account.

Virtual Pacer Mode

Training Plans

"I've been training the marathon for the past three months and I've stuck to a Garmin Connect training schedule," says Axford. "Many people do not know they exist.

" In Garmin Connect, you can choose the distance and the number of weeks you want to train. Then it will be downloaded to your calendar and device.

"For example, today I should do a simple run and my training is already preprogrammed on my watch. I'm doing heart rate-based training. I keep within a heart rate zone, so I'm doing the right thing during this workout.

To find the training plans on the Garmin Connect website, go to Training and select training plans. Not all Garmin devices can download the plan, which you can track on the clock, but anyone can get a customizable plan.

Course Creator

If you are in a new city and you do not know where to run or if you just get bored of following the same old paths, please contact Garmin's course designer.

"I am not very familiar with London or Southampton, although I have lived there for five years. If I told Garmin Connect that I wanted to run 5K in that general direction, one would use data to compile popular routes with other Garmin Connect users and then sync with my watch to follow. It takes two seconds.

The course creator is in the More section of the Garmin Connect app. Go there and then click Courses, Create course.

Back to the start

"When you go outside and walk through a forest, it's very easy to get lost," says Axford. "I'm in the New Forest and all the trees look the same after a while. Tracing back is great. "

While holding down the Menu key, scroll to the navigation. Select Back to Start, and you can choose either Straight or Breadcrumb ̵

Heart Rate Variability Test

"The test examines your heart rate variability and tells you whether you may be carrying a disease or have exaggerated the disease in your last session, so your body may not be ready for a hard session. This is a simple way to determine where you are.

To perform the test, you must pair a chest strap heart rate monitor with your tracker instead of using the heart rate monitor in the device. The HRV test can be found in the Activities menu.
