There's a good chance you've seen footage of Michael Jordan playing basketball. But until the first round of ESPN's incredible new 10-part documentary The Last Dance you may not have had the luxury of watching Michael Jordan play basketball that of Prince on "Partyman" [1

The documentary focuses on a mix of new footage from the Chicago Bulls championship season 1997-1998 – called title "Last Dance" – and is incredible with new interviews and expertly edited highlights. Check out a special one Team and the man who made the culture around the NBA what it is today. And the glue of what The Last Dance holds together in a way is music. The highlights are great and you can really relive what those moments were like – but there is a difference between Dennis Rodman who blows his ass and Dennis Rodman who blows his ass while the Beastie Boys are playing .

Each Last Dance episode is an exciting exploration of the person Jordan, the player Jordan and the culture that has surrounded him for a long time and makes the music of the show much of the heavy lifting when you show how cool a lot of it really was. In the course of the fifth episode of the series – when Air Jordans are presented and discussed in detail – all pieces of music by Nas, Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest play. That could be the most popular, formative and downright coolest cool trio of musicians from the 90s – which speaks exactly to what the series tries to convey about MJ.

And of course what the series tries to convey is how unique Michael Jordan was. It is one thing that a North Carolina child can develop into someone who is motivated like no other. The fact that the same child was able to grasp the collective awareness of what it means to be “cool” and basically never let go is something completely different in the mid-1980s. And by The Last Dance collecting an absolutely perfect grouping of music to accompany Jordan's exploits on the screen, the aura of cool can be depicted in a way that is more than just visual is.

So we just touched the base with ESPN who shared the full list of songs played during The Last Dance. Below are the songs broken down episode by episode and at the bottom a playlist curated by Spotify. After the last two parts of the documentary on Sunday, we will update the story one last time. Even if the documentary is over, not only will Michael Jordan's memes be left behind (because you know they never go away) – you still have the incredible soundtrack that you can listen to forever.
