Dudley Dursley in “The Devil All The Time”

  • Actor Harry Melling is best known for his role as Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter Movies in his youth, but his appearance on Netflix The devil all the time has stunned some viewers.
  • Not only does he look different from what many who weren’t paying attention, but he also plays a deeply mixed up character.
  • He goes all in on The Devil all the time. “Watching the devil all the time and the boy who played Dudley Dursley is sure he’ll leave everything on the field,” said one person.

See the draw The devil all the time was simple: Spider-Man (Tom Holland) versus Batman (Robert Pattinson) versus The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) in a sprawling, epic, South Gothic story about murder and the depravity of mankind. But the cast also included a number of other important faces that people weren̵

7;t expecting, including Mad Max Fury Road Star Riley Keough, Zero dark thirty Star Jason Clarke and IT Star Bill Skarsgård. But perhaps the most surprising twist in the director Antonio Campos’ film comes from actor Harry Melling, who plays Roy Laferty, a really insane preacher.

You may not know Harry Melling by name, but you will almost certainly recognize him from one of his previous roles – as Harry Potter’s cousin Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter Films (which also makes devil too almost-Goblet of Fire Reunification given Robert Pattinson’s role as Cedric Diggory). Given that the potter Films that were completed almost a decade ago shouldn’t come as a surprise that Melling looks different and plays different roles, but people are stunned nonetheless.

Laferty is one of the darkest and most mixed up characters in a movie that is about mixed up characters, situations, and circumstances. From the first moment he preaches, you can tell that a screw or two is loose. And that feeling is confirmed later in his opening scene when he drops a glass of spiders on him as part of his sermon. Bolts confirmed as loose.

It’s not the first time Melling has appeared surprising and disturbing on Netflix. In July, the 31-year-old actor starred alongside Charlize Theron and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Netflix’s superhero action film The old guard as the villain’s villain, Merrick, a ruthless Martin Shkreli-esque pharma brother.

Melling is doing a great job in The devil all the time play a nuanced version of a deeply, deeply depraved character believably (and this during scenes with powerful actors like Skarsgård and Mia Wasikowska). Fans were shocked that this outrageous spider preacher and Harry Potter’s spoiled lazy cousin are the same person – but once they got over that shock, they were pretty impressed by how well Melling really did a feat.
