• In a recent Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper has a patient squeeze her own steatocsytom
• Steatocsytoma multiplex is a skin condition that frequently causes the formation of multiple cysts.
• The disorder is rare and the cysts are benign most of the time and are filled with sebum and oily substances that contribute to the hair and keeping the skin lubricated.
Most dermatologists will tell you that it is rarely a good idea to remove cysts alone, but there is at least one exception – and that's when Dr. Pimple Popper directly monitors you. In a recent Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper, also known as dermatologist and TLC presenter, Dr. Sandra Lee, gives one of her patients a rare opportunity to pop their own cyst in front of the camera, as Dr. Lee points out in the headline d it posts says: "How many of you want to do your OWN, clean and painless bruising? #Steatocystoma "
As Dr. Lee points out in the hashtag, the patient is likely to do what is known as a steatocsytoma multiplex – a rare skin condition that, according to the National Institute of Health, often causes the formation of multiple cysts all over the body Fortunately, these cysts tend to be benign and form on sebaceous glands in the neck, upper arms and legs. The yellow oily material that the patient extracts is tallow, a substance that helps to nourish hair, skin and nails Fortunately, as the NIH notes, these little bumps are usually the only sign of the condition.
And if you fancy more of Dr. Pimple Popper, you're in luck: your show returned to TLC last week Back Thursday, look for their next episode in the 9/8 Center.
