If you’ve ever cooked, you probably want to pop it. Well, this man did just that – by sticking a cactus thorn right into his forehead.
In an exclusive clip from the new spin-off series by Dr. Pimple Popper Dr. Pimple Popper: Before the PopThe dermatologist and TLC moderator Dr. Sandra Lee, MD, meets up with Juan from Texas, who has boils all over his body. And boy does he have any stories to tell?
In the video, Dr. Lee video chat with Juan which was her solution to still seeing patients while respecting COVID-19 social distancing measures. At first glance, Juan looks like the picture of dermatological health ̵
“It’s all behind the hair,” says Juan to Dr. Lee as he turns and brushes his long locks from the back of his neck.
Juan has several large lumps on his neck and back, and some scars from previous moves. He says Dr. Lee that he had “popped” the growths before, with a doctor numbing the area, nudging the growth, and draining it.
And so it’s time for this cactus thorn story: Juan says he performed the ill-advised procedure as a teenager. At that time he was “very confident and insecure” about his skin.
“They used to call me ‘Boils’ behind my back,” says Juan Dr. Lee from other teenagers. “It actually got me out of high school.”
After a boil formed on his forehead, Juan knew he had to deal with it somehow. He says Dr. Lee that he sterilized a thorn in alcohol for a day and then pushed the cactus thorn all the way into the bump. Then he broke off the end of the thorn, leaving the rest on his forehead.
“If a thorn gets into your skin, it has to come out at some point,” says Juan. And boy did this come out?
“The thorn shot out and all that stuff came out,” he says to Dr. Lee and moves like a waterfall over his face. “It never came back.”
Juan says Dr. Lee that he has not performed another solo procedure since then. But sometimes the growths burst on their own, which, according to Juan, prevents him from living his life.
“I get up in the morning and sometimes they pop, so I have to bathe all the time,” he says. “Sometimes when I’m out with people you suddenly get a bad smell because these things burst on my back without my knowing.”
With the problem a constant source of worry in his life, Juan is ready for a change. And Dr. Lee is just the right person to help.
“I never know if a girl is looking at me or cooking,” he tells the famous Derm. And you certainly can’t live like that.
