Distracting while meditating is normal – that's how it looks

You've probably heard that meditation can be really good for you. From reducing stress to intelligence, the benefits of integrating meditation into your life sound great. However, when it really comes to try the idea can be overwhelming.

Fortunately, it's pretty easy to start, and you do not have to be good at it from the start. (It's after all called .) And with countless apps that make it easier, even just five minutes of meditation a day can make a difference.

When you try meditation for the first time or try to get back in the habit, you know that it's not all "om" and blissful emptiness. We're pretty sure you might have one (or all) of those thoughts if you try.

It will be so easy.

<! – Sit on the floor and do nothing? Piece. From. Cake. I bet I could even make a silent retreat.

. 2 Do I keep my eyes open or closed?

<! – Is there a meditation protocol? Maybe a few "best practices" should I google?

. 3 Oh, God, should I read more about it now? Or later?

<! – What if I'm doing it wrong? Can you meditate wrong?

. 4 Was it already five minutes? I'm getting tired.

<! – I should not look. The timer goes off every second. It's okay.

. 5 I remember having made a really terrible comment eight years ago. What if everyone hates me and I just do not know?

<! – Is it too late to apologize?

. 6 That it is to laaaaaaaaaate, it is to laaaaaaaate. Said it is too late to apologize, it is too laaaaaaaate.

<! – Dammit, now I'll put this song in my head all day long.

. 7 Why is the timer not expired yet?

<! – Seriously, maybe I forgot to start the launch? It was at least five minutes. Maybe 10. HOW WAS IT ONLY TWO MINUTES ?!

<! – After meditation I definitely deserve it.

10th I just have to concentrate. Focus. I can do this. Focus. Ommmm.

<! – Is that the reason why they make this noise? To give them something to focus on? I have to google it when I'm done.

11. Did I leave the oven on? I definitely left something on.

<! – I forgot what I forgot. This is a bad sign, right?

12. Whoops, lost my concentration. Once again.

<! – If they spent medals on that, I would definitely win the gold for the worst meditation.

13. Oh my god, it's over.

<! – I'll never do that again. Ever.

fourteenth … OK, but I'm basically a Zen god now. I have to do this every day.

<! – Am I lit? I feel like I'm glowing.

Regardless of what you think while meditating, remember that it's definitely okay for you to wander around in your head. Meditation is not but only to relax or to find peace. Be gentle to yourself, direct your thoughts to where you want to focus and keep practicing. You do not have to be good at it to enjoy big benefits.
