• American DJ and record producer Diplo shows his L.A. home.
• He makes pushups into live music.
• It gets weird when we meet his chickens.
It does not take long for Diplo to make things strange. The DJ, record producer and Major Lazer frontman opens the front door on a balance board and soon leads us around his patio while juggling a medicine ball.
He drops onto his Chanel yoga mat and does some poses before ending it. "I'm still a bit drunk from last night," he says, brushing his hair out of his face, taking off his glasses and grabbing a skipping rope.
In short, this is Diplo, on the last rate of "Gym and Fridge" we visit the LA residence of the "Where Are Ü Now" producer to visit his fitness (and chicken) rooms and one Look into his fridge.
After some drunken yoga Diplo gets serious and the real conversation begins. Except not really ̵
"My fitness goals are not to die," says the DJ factually. "I really like taking off my shirt on Instagram, so it's good to have at least some muscle." Diplo then takes off his shirt to show us some tattoos, like the Challenger Space Shuttle that flies into his armpit.
"I got this tattoo at 5," he says, pointing to a dinosaur mask on his forearm. Since this statement is obviously in need of explanation, he continues, "I'm from Daytona Beach, so you can get some tattoos there very early."
"This is my grandma," he says pointing to a smoking turtle with a yin -Yang shell on the left shoulder. "She used to smoke cigarettes on the chain and she had a turtle in her backyard." That seems to make sense, right?
Diplo then goes in to demonstrate his indoor fitness routine and takes us to a music studio-like space where an unknown man plays on a keyboard.
"That's Klaus. He is from the Austrian Music Conservatory. I sometimes come here and play music when I train. "Diplo looks at the floor. "Play something when I do pushups, Klaus." Klaus plays something when Diplo starts doing pushups. He finished. "Klaus, you did well. You can take a break. "
After some ukulele playing after the pushup, we go to the kitchen of Diplo, which turned out to be just as strange as anything else. In his fridge Erewhon has everything: asparagus, soup, ginger and lots of juice.
cow's milk is a no . Bottles of Dom Perignon wine lining a whole refrigerator shelf are a hell.
There are more ordinary articles like Sriracha and apples (not from Erewhon). There are some illegal things, like a bag of weeds. "That's grass. I do not know why it's in the fridge, "he says, and discovers the little bag next to some eggs and over a drawer of raw vegetables (of course, to shake).
Then, on another adventure, Diplo takes us down the stairs and into a covered henhouse. "That's Beyoncé and Kelly," he says, noting the farm birds of his fate under the motto "child." "If you take a chicken, you want to be energetic and yet fair," he says as he picks one up and starts making a couple of squats with the chicken as the object and spectator of this unprecedented event.
"I have those huge leg muscles and I have never squared in my life," he jokes, just seconds after I've squat.
But somehow all this bizarre, paradoxical behavior seems to be uniquely diplo. And at that point we are a bit into it. "I love running outside, but when I'm on a treadmill, I know where I'm going," he says. Never change, man. Never change.
