Marvel Studios' first female superhero movie had its sixth-biggest opening weekend in film history, earning some $ 455 million at the box office worldwide. Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson as intergalactic heroine Carol Danvers, has enjoyed the most successful opening weekend of any female front project of all time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While certain moviegoers said they would boycott Captain Marvel the numbers really speak for themselves. "Marvel Studios proves once again that stories that combine different perspectives and different experiences are great films that play for everyone, and people are longing for representation," says Disney sales chief Cathleen Taff.
