Bollywood star Arifin Shuvoo shares his workout and diet

While he’s preparing to shoot his new action movie Mission Extreme, Bollywood star Arifin Shuvoo decided to take the opportunity and get in the absolute best shape possible. He weighed 95 kg at the start of his journey after having purposely gained weight for his previous film. He immediately made changes to his diet and began high-intensity cardio, including running and rowing, to begin burning fat. “I had very little stamina in the beginning because I had never trained so hectically,”

As the workout progressed, Shuvoo introduced strength training into his routine. “I thought I would never be able to lift that much weight,” he says. “After a while I realized that I can actually lift heavier weights.”

However, he remembers that he was injured when he started seeing some physical results and feeling more confident in his workouts: heavy lifting had caused repeated tissue damage that resulted in extremely painful swellings in his knees and ankles. “I seem to have put pressure on cells that have already been damaged,” he says. He was forced to stop exercising for four months while he recovered: “Exercising was strictly forbidden because I couldn’t even get up.”

After Shuvoo had previously been advised against taking action roles after a previous injury by doctors, he became depressed – but he wanted to get through the journey anyway. “I didn’t want to give up without trying, at least I had to try. I was determined,” he says. “I decided to start training again. This time we decided to stop the leg and lower body exercises and start with the upper body … I couldn’t give up halfway, I wanted to push a little more.”

Nine months after beginning his transformation, Shuvoo was ready for his new role: he weighed 82 kg, had lost his belly fat and replaced it with ripped six-pack abs. He also built muscles in his chest, shoulders and back and arms.

“Anything is possible in this world, if you want,” he says. “If we want something from the heart and work for it and never give up our goal, anything is possible.”
