We learned a lot about the former governor, actor, and the fitness icon Arnold Schwarzenegger last summer. The 73-year-old was share his workoutsand advises how to do it Build exercise habits this will take you a lifetime and (most delightfully) introduce us to his menagerie of inexplicably indoor farm animals.
One thing we didn’t know about the Terminator was its obvious passion for tuning. But in one last tweetSchwarzenegger describes himself as a “voting fanatic”. And he seems ready to put his money where his mouth is: describing how many polling stations in the United States have closed and apparently offering to pay to have them reopen.
Schwarzenegger begins by referring to a Reuters article from 201
Eliminating this requirement, proponents of voting rights argue, gave states too much freedom to conduct their elections – a freedom they are now abusing and which has discriminatory effects. Most of the affected areas were in southern states, and since the law was weakened, officials have closed many polling stations, making it very difficult for people to vote. For example, there is only one polling station in seven counties in Georgia.
Often the authorities claim that this is a cost-cutting measure rather than an attempt to reduce voter turnout in poorer areas, often in minority areas. Schwarzenegger doesn’t seem to be buying that argument, and he’s calling out officials who work for poverty.
“Most people call final polls the suppression of voters,” he said writes. “Some say it’s ‘budgetary’. What if I just went ahead and solved the budget problem? How much would it cost to reopen polling stations? “
“This is a serious question” he continues. “Is the closing of polling stations about making voting more difficult for minorities, or is it because of the budget? If you say it’s your budget, let’s talk. “
Challenge issued. Sounds like the ball is in your court, election officials.
