Are paper straws as harmful as plastic straws?

Everywhere we go, plastic straws are no longer visible. They are now being replaced by a much biodegradable material, which is a paper straw. But are these straws environmentally friendly?

It changes how people now throw away the plastic and replace it with biodegradable material. Plastic was most often replaced by paper straws. When we started to believe we removed the harmful plastic from our lives, did we barely know that paper straws are not as effective for health and the environment? There has been a constant debate about how plastic is used for various goods such as tote bags, food packaging, lollipops, etc.

Where does paper straw come from?

Marvin Chester of America created the paper straw in 1888. Paper straws became very popular in the beginning, but after knowing the threat, it was no longer used and instead replaced with plastic straw. Why then the return to paper straws? Many countries, including India, have started moving from plastic to paper straws again. Paper straw is considered to be environmentally friendly because paper objects can be decomposed within 3 to 6 weeks. However, natural materials such as paper, hay or even hollow plant stems emit an unpleasant odor in the beverage making it an unfavorable choice for humans.

Are paper straws harmful to the body? Paper is made of wood that is bleached and dyed in various colors and patterns to create attractive-looking straws. This immediately suggests that while we drink juices and coke from the paper straws, we also absorb a lot of chemicals and even unknowingly eat scraps of paper, as they will get wet within a few minutes. The paper used in straws is chemically treated with cellulose. Again, the tiny pieces of paper can unknowingly enter the system. This can be avoided if the straws are waxed, which still damages the human body.

The use of glue and wax straws is not very harmful according to several reports, as they have been approved by the FDA. However, the use of ingredients should be below a certain limit.
