Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are cool and everything, but everyone loves a good snack. And if you want that bite to really support you between meals, high protein snacks are great choices.
Coupled with the millions-and-one body functions that this vital nutrient supports, protein prevents you from getting hungry right away as your body takes longer to digest. Rebecca Scritchfield, RDN, certified exercise physiologist and author of Body Kindness, says SELF. It takes a while for the amino acids in protein to be broken down and used up, which results in you being satisfied longer, explains Scritchfield. Protein can also help prevent energy drops by providing a more stable flow of energy than sugar, for example. Scritchfield recommends eating protein throughout the day (not just in your main meals) to keep your energy levels constant and to keep those hunger pangs at bay.
